The intensely smooth and rich roasted flavor is complemented by the unmistakable pretence of hops.
The bitterness is held in check, preserving the flavors of dark chocolate.
This ale is aggressively dry hopped with Citra to cut through it all. Hail Santa.

16 oz. can thanks to Phatdog1, Thanks. It looked like used motor oil pouring out of the sliver can. Lasting tan that stayed until the finale. Aroma is mild with flavor being pretty bold. Aroma is light chocolate with pine hops.
Flavor starts piney with a main body of smooth chocolate malts that build the backbone. Light citrus hops that are over powered by pine and smooth out with nice amounts of chocolate. Texture is creamy with Body leaning on full to heavy. The pine bitterness lingers just slightly.
Overall, this is another fine brew for this brewer. I can’t wait for a retail shop to open, would love to try more styles and get other offerings.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured black with a dark brown head that lasted throughout the beer and laced thickly. Flavor was full of roasted malt with some smoke, chocolate and backing hoppiness. There was also a decent amount of alcohol on the nose. Flavor was similar with chocolate and roasted malts being backed by pine hops with a decent amount of alcohol in the finish.

Cask. A deep dark stout with a thick moka head. Pungeant hops and light chocolate, earthy and intense. In mouth, herbal organic stout, with good intense chocolate and herbal hops. Rich and intense. On tap at brewpub, Nov. 29 2008, Alchemist’s 5th Anniversary.

Tap at Blind Tiger - whoa, this one is hoppy for a stout - the pour is nice and black, with a dark tan head - the aroma is of strong, pine-like hops, roasty character, some chocolate - the strong hops in the flavor enhance a powerful woodiness, some tobacco, coffee, and bittersweet chocolate flavors - I normally don’t like hoppy stouts, but this works.
