(Bottle, vintage 2006) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dark fruit, wild berries, caramel and notes of chocolate. Malty taste with dark bread, chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, raisins and wild berries. Slightly spicy finish. Above medium body, smooth and rounded mouthfeel. Balanced sweetness with a warming hint of alcohol coming through towards the end. Very good balance, possibly lacking something extra. Nice and warming beer.

50 cL bottle, #492. Pours cloudy and dark brown with a creamy slight tan head. Fruity and mild acidic aroma with a light spice note. Fruity and a mild smoke sulphorish base flavour. Light acidic. Quite fruity towards the finish nice yet surely off but strangely in a nice way.

Bottled (2006 vintage) Mahogany colour, minimal head. Coffeeish nose. Sweet and near full bodied. Lots of grass, butterscotch and toffee. A caramelly and chocoaletey doppelbock plus. I like the grainy, rustic house character of Braunstein. Most of their beers are more solid than adventurous, but this is both.

Pours brown with very little head. Aroma is sweet and somewhat sour (infected?). Flavour is sweet with notes of currants and liquorice. Alcohol is well hidden. An empty and boring Doppelbock.

Bottle at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007, vintage 2005, tasted twice
6-4-4-3-10=27
6-3-6-3-12=30

Red to dark amber color. Aroma with dry tobacco, malt. The flavor has some caramel; good body; not very bitter, not complex; there is a light sourness.
I tried two bottles, both give me the impression of being slightly infected, and the flavor is tired (a beer that shouldn’t age).

Ruby color, small brown head. Glue-like, aged nose. Berry-like, sweetish flavor, a bit oxidated, brandy-like aftertaste. Fizzy carbonation. Calvados-like beer, suprise to see that this is a doppelbock.
