Offici-ALE Weather Report: There’s a Citrus Squall moving in!
National weather reports confirm there’s a squall (of the delicious kind!) brewing and it’s set to touch down in cities from coast to coast. Our best advice? Grab your ponchos … er, pint glasses and get ready!
We’re proud to introduce Citrus Squall … the perfect storm of a double golden ale and a paloma cocktail brewed with grapefruit juice, blue agave nectar, lime peels and a touch of sea salt.
At 8.0% ABV, Citrus Squall brings strong gusts of citrusy hop and grapefruit aromas, counterbalanced by a downpouring of bright and tart grapefruit flavor and a blue agave nectar sweetness. Starting on the East Coast, Citrus Squall will quickly billow out and roll its way to taps and shelves across the nation both on draft and in 6pk/12oz cans, expected to hit ground in early spring. Ahead of its arrival, Dogfish suggests the following preparation plan.
How to Spot (& Enjoy) a Citrus Squall:
1. Visit your favorite local store, beer distributor, bar or restaurant.
2. Quickly make your way to the craft beer section of the location or menu.
3. Calmly seek out Citrus Squall’s bright magenta-pink packaging or tap handle.
4. Get ready for a delicious storm of tequila-inspired grapefruit flavor!

Canned at nats Park - looks hazy pale gold. Tons of grapefruit and syrup. Ok but drank it on a cold day so not ideal

Pounder can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours translucent gold with a slight white head. Aroma has lots of citrus with an agave note. Med body or better. Almost dry. Flavor is grapefruit, salt and agave. Not exactly bitter, but sort of. A little agave sweetness, but not a lot. A deal of salt.

Can to glass...pours gold with a little haziness to it. Smells a bit like a sweet wine. I would compare to a riesling or sweet fruit dessert wine.
Creamy but light mouthfeel.
Sweet finish...muddled tropical fruit flavors mixed with a semi-generic beer flavor. Grapefruit shows up as this gets warmer....ruby red.

Due to the fact that I was unable to use Ratebeer for several months and because of technical reasons, no detailed evaluation is possible.

12oz can. Booming salty grapefruit aroma. Quite an odd beer, the agave nectar is perhaps the oddest facet. The underlying strong Golden Ale would have probably been pleasant on its own. Too much going on, not much of it desirable. Worth a tick perhaps, wouldn't want much more.

Grapefruit juice, lime, biscuit malt, and grapefruit peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large white head. Moderately sweet grapefruit peel, lime biscuit malt, and grapefruit peel flavor. Nice body. Nice fruity beer that hides its strength well.
