Imperial Stout, blessedly free of extra stuff

A huge, imposing Imperial Stout, but just the beer part. No extra candy or pastry here, just a mountain of malts. We mashed twice as much, and boiled three times as long, and the resultant beer is luxuriantly chewy, chocolatey, mildly roasty, and delightful all on its own.

Refrigerated pint can poured into a glass. Black with small light brown headed. Aroma is dark malt, thick body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is dark malt and rich chocolate.

I went to a brewery new to me in Austin recently and there I got an 8 oz serving from the tap of You Can Have The Crown. It served up totally black with little or no head. A drink gave me chocolate certainly, coffee, some baked bread, malt, cane syrup and berries. I found the beer to be sweet, chewy and nice. Hope it turns up again.

The aromas are toasted dark malt with a little cocoa and a touch of coffee. Flavors are similar to nose, moderately sweet with just enough carbonation and bitter to balance. Full rich body and satisfying finish. Good sipping beer.

Black body, huge brown head. Nose huge char, raisin, and soy, in classic imperial stout fashion. Body big and sweet with lots of soy and raisin, prune, umami, charred burnt sugars, and marshmallow. Thick and sweet, and could perhaps benefit from a stronger hops and/or alcohol presence, but still quite nice.

Pint can from Total Wine Madison, 4/23/22. Near black, thin brown head, poor retention. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast. Taste is coffee, chocolate syrup, roast, cherry, vanilla, smoke. Full bodied, slick. Nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours near black with a chocolate brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice roast and chocolate combination with a dark grain backbone. Flavor has a nice roast and dark grains throughout with cocoa and a bit of bitterness in the finish.
