Redoing another of my reviews that RB has lost. This beer is a classic. Not quite as good as their nitro version but still very good. Pick up a little bit more of the tanginess that is a trademark of this brewery. Excellent balance between bittersweet and carbonation.

Malt, malt malt. Black body with off white head. Toast and biscuit aroma. The tin says bold and bittersweet and the hop is enough to stop the malt from getting too sweet. Toasty with a little chocolate in the finish.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass. Appearance is opaque black with nice sparkle at edges of the glass, finger-width foamy light brown head with poor retention and trace leggy lacing. Aroma is nice roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, earthy bitter. Taste is bittersweet roasted malt, earthy bitter, caramel, hint of dark fruit. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with smooth, thick texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, consistent with other Guinness stout offerings. Solid but not earth-shattering.

So I was surprised to see the beers I stole at a party were actually a different version than the Canadian one. Dark brown and beige head. Molasses and malts. Sweet and a little thin.
