Said to be hoppier than a hopping mad hopi, our rather good Doctor Okell's takes the 200 year old tradition of the strong India Pale Ale to its ultimate, thanks to one of Dr Mike's finest brewing moments...
Doctor Okell's is an extremely light coloured beer with a surprising full bodied taste. The sweetness is offset by a very strong hopping rate. That gives the finished beer an over all roundness with very spicy lemony notes and a fine dry finish to counteract the initial sweetness.
Ingredients: All pale ale malt, hops, 1st Fuggles and First Gold, 2nd Hallertau and Saaz, 3rd Cascade and Styrian Goldings.

50cl bottle from Sainsburys. Amber with a fast fading white head leaving a rather flat looking drink; aroma has dusty hops and some cereal; citrus flavour but rather sweet; leaving a floury taste of under-cooked pastry.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Pours pale gold with a billowing, off-white head. Aroma of straw, dusty malt and some grassy hops. Flavour was bitter with biscuit malt and a decent finish. Good.

Misty orange beer with medium white head. Aroma is pleasant: hoppy fruits and some malts and grass. Flavour is strongly bitter but not very pleasant way. Flavour is also musty and clearly worse than aroma. Quite light to drink with lot of carbonation. Disappointment after great appearance and aroma, but musty flavour and soda-like palate doesn’t save this beer.

Very clear golden brew, well-carbonated, with just off-white head. Toasted, or pre-sliced bread; warm malts, then fresh garden herbs and lunaria . In the taste, first a dull, sweet impression, alleviated by some grassy hopsflavour, but qutie subdued, a bit dull after all. Toasted again too. Medium bodied, ending a bit empty. Okells must be the only brewery in my knowledge, managing to make a wheatbeer that is more interesting than their IPA!

Bottled at Københavnske Øldage. Clear, a bit pale golden body, and a small white head. It has a nice, fruity aroma with piney and citrusy hops. The flavor is much the same, but with an added touch of lime. Quite bitter finish. Medium body. A refreshing beer, but I would like more malt to balance it. (070511)
