We craft this much like a sculptor who uses only a hammer and chisel to shape stone into a masterpiece. Hoppe is spawned of these few essentials: barley, wheat, hops, yeast and water. This limited palette is an exercise in minimalism, with refined elements which are deliberately selected. This simple combination creates a golden shimmering brew infused with delicate aromas. The artful nature of this beer is exposed with the first taste. As the malt and hops created a composition of flavors, and elegant finish leaves an impression that your tastes will not soon forget. Don’t be deceived by the innocence of Hoppe. Please enjoy in moderation.

Hazy golden-amber colour. Rich, resiny hop aroma is bright and appetizing. Really rich citrus, pine, resin. The pale malt signature is robust but simple breads. The alcohol comes in late to mix with some of the resin. All the same, I love both these hops but get the sense they probably don’t belong in the same beer together.

Bottle. Cloudy amber color with a nice, dense head of about one finger. Aromas are pleasantly hoppy: citrus and pine with a nice bit of sweetness to it. Flavor is kind of odd, though. It almost starts off like a wheat or something... there is a slight chewiness to the front end before it gives way to a hoppy finish. The finish is really well done and crisp, but I’m not sold with the texture up front. It definitely packs a bit of a kick, too.

Poured a deep orange color with ruby hues and a foamy white head. Smells like a well hopped IPA, plenty of pine, soap, orange, lemon but also banana, malt, and a touch of yeast. Taste is hard candy, citrus, oranges/tangerines, malt, medicine, and resin. Finish is sticky and thick on the tongue and palate with a slight lasting bitterness and heat from the alcohol. Smells good, looks good, unique, drinkable. Worth a try.

22 oz. bottle shared by csbosox at the 12/7 tasting at Indra’s. Pour is slightly hazed golden-orange with a smallish white head. Aroma full of Amarillo hops, slightly earthy, and somewhat citrusy. Some sweetness also present in the nose. Taste is nice, a good resin-earthy sweet citrus thing going on. There is also some graininess to the taste. The finish is a bit of grapefruit rind which detracts a bit. Overall nice, though a bit jagged in the finish. Thanks for hauling this one back, Chris.

Pours medium yellow with an average sized white head. Perfumed aroma of citrus - oranges. It takes finesse to craft a big malty strong ale that retains balance yet retains complexity and high drinkability. This one needs work as well. Not a bad brew, but this one doesn’t put it all together s it should.

22 oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head that laces and gold color. Aroma is nice citrus-lemon (Amarillo) and some Columbus hops. Taste is bitter and sweet nice citrus-lemon (Amarillo) and some Columbus hops, some light/medium malt. OK carbonation. Interesting. 080401-rerate-22oz bottle Thanks to jwc215(BA) for sharing.

Sampler at Cardinal Liquors, Frankfort. Light color, almost Pils-like. Implication from the name is that this is some hop monster, but not so. Just some well-done light toast malts, still detectable among a snootful of hops (are these PNW or New York-grown?). Hoppiness sticks around, though, and makes for a very strong surprise finish.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Oct 19th, 2007: This beer is a lightly hazed amber-gold color with a compact off-white head that dissipates steadily. Stickly rings of lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops is dominant in the nose, with a light bready malt behind. Crisp, medium body with a bright citrus hops flavor, alongside herbs and caramel malt too. The finish is nicely bitter and lingering hops. Enjoyable all around.

It pours a cloudy golden color with medium sized head. Nice aroma of brewing malts. The body is quite strong, there is a good malt and toffee flavor, strong bitterness, but also an evident astringency given by some extra yeast. Most of the hop qualities are lost, it’s nevertheless a bold brew.
