Half-pint, draught at BrewDog Shoreditch, Shared with Finn. Spotty lacing from a fair beige head, coal black in the glass. Roasted malty smell, cocoa to the fore. Dark malt-driven taste of cocoa, caramel, and dark bread. Roasted malty ending, creamy. A bit thin in the mouth. Satisfying. (London, 12.02.2023).

Pours a deep dark brown colour with a small, thick, lasting, creamy beige head. The aroma is light roasted malt, cocoa powder and some charred wood notes. A dryish mouthfeel, light roasted malts and burnt toast flavours with some chocolate and ashy notes in a drying finish.

Tap at brewdog Waterloo. A jet black coloured pour with a lasting creamy khaki head. Aroma is subdued, woody roast, earthy roasted barley, hint of char. Flavour is composed of mellow roasted barley, toasted bread with a little char, palate is bland, watery nitro, not very much to it.

Keg at BD Waterloo, 08/02/23. Deep mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is cocoa sprinkle, brown bread, light charr, ashen tones. Taste comprises raisins, chocolate biscuit, dried fruit rinds, mellow roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close. Decent enough stout.

Keg at BD Castlegate. It pours unsurprisingly black/darkest brown, opaque with a small light tan head. The aroma is not dissimilar to Guinness... rich roasted malt, tar, coffee grounds, cacao, touch of pipe tobacco, umami and liquorice. The taste is dry, pleasing bitterness upfront, toasty, rich roasted malt, hint of smoke/pipe tobacco, charred wood, cacao / bitter dark chocolate, umami, liquorice and some toasted spice with a toasty, bitter - dry finish. Medium body and fine+ carbonation, with a soft, velvety carbonation. Nice robust flavour, but would like the nice nitrogenated body of the beer it is emulating. Nice anyhow.
