Rotbiere waren früher in Franken häufiger anzutreffen. Vor allem die Stadt Nürnberg war bekannt für ihr Rotbier. Da seine Herstellung extrem aufwändig war, wurde das Rotbier im 19. Jahrhundert durch das mit modernen, einfacheren Brauverfahren hergestellten Braunbier verdrängt und verschwand. Erst 1997 wurde der Bierstil wiederbelebt.
Für unser Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel Rotbier trocknen wir das Malz über einem Feuer mit hochwertigem Kirschholz und nicht wie beim klassischen Rauchbier über Buchenholzfeuer. Im Gegensatz zum würzigen Buchenrauchmalz hat das Kirschrauchmalz ein fruchtiges, fast süßliches Raucharoma und sorgt für eine kupferrote Farbe im Glas. Feinster Aromahopfen ergänzt den vielschichtigen Rauchgeschmack um eine beerige Note. Mit 4,6% Alkohol ist Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel ein vollmundiges, angenehm süffiges Bier.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and smoke, with touches of caramel and hops. Bitter, roasty and smokey flavour with notes of malt and yeast, and touches of hops. Smokey and hoppy aftertaste with estery touches. A nice one, like everything from this brewery.

Bottle, 4.6%. Good smokey aroma, a lot like most of the other Schlenkerla beers. Clear chestnut colour. Small stable whitish head. The flavour is smokey. Slightly watery. Has a salty touch. Perhaps a little caramel. Tastes a lot like the Märzen, but perhaps a little thinner than I remember it.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark reddy amber with a beige head. Aroma of woody smoke and light fruity malts. Taste is slightly sweet, wood smoke, slightly meaty, fruity malts, caramel, light-moderate bitterness. Medium bodied.
Really nice rotbier, the cherrywood smoke more subtle than beechwood but adding extra depth.

# 5052; 7/2026. Smoky, ham, light fruity and caramel aroma. Brilliant copper body; persistent beige head. Smoky, fruity, cherry; very dry finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Excellent Rauchbier. 0,5 l, bottle, craft beer shop (Base Camp), Prague.

Bottles from Against The Grain (2023) and Cornelius (2025). Clear ruby body with an off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of berries, earth, Dr Pepper, leather and lightly smoked malt. Flavour of dried fruit, brown bread and butterscotch with a slight hop bitterness to balance things nicely. A unique, very tasty lager. It’s more subtle than Schlenkerla’s beechwood smoked beers.

Nose is leftover ham in the refrigerator. That's my best guess, sorry :))
Strong smoked flavor at the beginning, more of a red ale afterwards. Faint smokey finish.

Helder, roodkoper. Geur: dikke rook, lapsang souchon, tikje boter. Rn: idem, iets fruit ook. Smaak: lichtjes zoet, vleugje zurig, rokerig. Lichte body. Bitterige afdronk. Niet helemaal overtuigend wmb.

Appearance: dark brown color with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head. Once it dissipated, some light messy lace stuck to my glass
Aroma: huge amount of smoked meats - somewhat ham-like, a little bit of bacon-like, some woody spice, delicate cocoa powder far underneath
Flavor: blends all the prior mentioned aromas smoky sweet and adding in a superb level of woody spice underneath; mild aftertaste of smoke, ham and woody spice
Texture: light to medium bodied; some sessionability, so smooth along my tongue, finishes smoky sweet
Overall: an absolute lovely world class Rauchbier by one of my favorite breweries. Of course, I would love to have this again.
