Rotbiere waren früher in Franken häufiger anzutreffen. Vor allem die Stadt Nürnberg war bekannt für ihr Rotbier. Da seine Herstellung extrem aufwändig war, wurde das Rotbier im 19. Jahrhundert durch das mit modernen, einfacheren Brauverfahren hergestellten Braunbier verdrängt und verschwand. Erst 1997 wurde der Bierstil wiederbelebt.
Für unser Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel Rotbier trocknen wir das Malz über einem Feuer mit hochwertigem Kirschholz und nicht wie beim klassischen Rauchbier über Buchenholzfeuer. Im Gegensatz zum würzigen Buchenrauchmalz hat das Kirschrauchmalz ein fruchtiges, fast süßliches Raucharoma und sorgt für eine kupferrote Farbe im Glas. Feinster Aromahopfen ergänzt den vielschichtigen Rauchgeschmack um eine beerige Note. Mit 4,6% Alkohol ist Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel ein vollmundiges, angenehm süffiges Bier.

I was very pleased to find this for sale. Nose is savory, meaty, cheese, lots of smoke, bonfires, the faintest vanilla. Taste is smoke, cheese, a gentle fruitiness, lots more smoke, malty, hint of caramel, floral, vanilla, a medicinal bitter note with a the faintest hint of grapefruit in the finish. Silky body that might be a touch thin. A lovely colour.

500ml bottle. Pours reddy brown with a large head. Aroma is sweetfruity smoke and bacon. Taste has light woody smoke and bacon.

Bouteille en importation privée. Merci à Phil. Un fumé délicat empreint de notes boisées et de céréales grillées se dégage de l’olfactif bien complexe. Le liquide est brun avec reflets cuivrés et parfaitement limpide. La mousse, d’épaisseur moyenne, persiste quand même assez bien. Le fumé délicat domine l’entrée de bouche se voulant très subtilement caramélisé. Présence d’esters rappelant la mure et la framboise. Le fumé rappelle le bacon et la saucisse hot-dog. La finale bien sèche se veut fumée certes, mais aussi avec une certaine amertume herbacée. L’apport des esters est particulièrement agréable et donne son caractère fruité à l’ensemble fumé, rehaussant l’équilibre et la complexité de cette bière exceptionnelle. Hautement appréciée! A red copper ale with a thin very thin off white head. In aroma, nice bacon and caramel, light mineral notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light peated notes, light cereals, very nice.

A quite session able smoked beer Clear amber pour and a fine head. Ok lacing Fine intensity in the aroma Balanced sweetness and bitterness. Also a fine carbonation level. Pleasant to drink. 500ml bottle from Beru Vykhodnoi in Moscow. Pours a clear deep amber/copper with a small beige head. Aroma is smoked malt, caramel, wood. Taste is light sweet, smoked malt, caramel, dried fruit. Medium bitter finish. Light to medium bodied. It’s very good, but to me this is the worst Schlenkerla beer.

Bottle (from Die Bierothek). Deep amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is sweet floral, some mild wooden and mild smoked tones. Flavour is smoked, some wooden, mild floral and some earthy and a bit grainy tones. Nice smoked aftertaste.

Amber colour with chill haze. Aroma of bread, caramelized crust, smoke. Good body; roasted malts, compared to the main line like Märzen it doesn't have the balance of the sugars; medium smoke. Good, clean.
