Caramel, malt and a touch of hops in the aroma. Hopbitter, caramelly, grassy flavor. Touch of milk chocolate. Complex and fresh tasting dunkel of remarkable quality. Thanks MoritzF, for this swing top bottle.

Bottle. Dark brown with a nice big head. Aroma of malts and caramel. Taste follows aroma plus a tiny hint of chocolate. Too sweet and strangely sour. Medium to strong carbonation. Pretty thin and watery. Not that balanced. Just a mediocre Dunkel.

* Old rating, 0,5l bottle, best before 12.11.05. Netter Bär auf dem Etikett, der ein helles(!) Bier trinkt - oder es jedenfalls versucht... Das Bier ist süßlich, leicht klebrig mit leichter Herbe - und deutlich dunkler als auf dem Etikett.
Earlier Rating: 11/1/2014 Total Score: 3.8
Rating from 2005. Erdig-malzig, nicht zu viel Röstmalz, schön mild-weich. Toller Malzkörper. Im Nachgeschmack angenehm passend-bitter werdend. Toll! --> 13

Bottle looks very simple but okay. Beer in the glass brownish, nice head. Roasty-malty aroma. Starts malty, roasty-dry, some hints of caramel. Mild bitter background. Finish well balanced. Not bad!
Earlier Rating: 12/5/2011 Total Score: 3.4
Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black, small head. Starts fine malty, not too roasty, modest sourish. Also some earthy hints, modest dry. Finish well balanced, warming-malty. Good dunkel!

Pours deep brown color. Caramel and toasted malt nose. Same applies to the taste - the toasted malt kicks in first but it has a weak finish.

Gravity fed on cask at Gourmet Haus in Redwood City. Chestnut brown with garnet flecks on the corners. Head is tan - but did not last. Lots of malt and melanoidan on the nose. Mouthfeel is thin. Slightly sweet malts on the palate, but they do linger a bit. Some slight roast as well. Could drink a number of these darks as a session bier, but would probably opt for something better. Would serve only with a cheese course.
