Bottle. Old orange, cinnamon and wheat malt aroma. Bright orange yellow color - cloudy with small head - looks like a Hefe. Sweet flat orange and wheat flavor - moderate acidic finish. I not a big fan of the flavor of this beer - would have gotten a much lower rating if it were a Hefeweizen like it’s labelled - besides its appearance, it has no Hefe characteristics at all. (5/4/4/3 - 9 2.5). / 6-23-17 Re-rate. Banana, orange, clove, wheat malt, and straw aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Moderate sweet banana, orange, wheat malt, and mildly bitter hay/clove flavor. Nice body. Way better than it used to be - don’t know what they did, but this is a respectable Hefeweizen now

12 oz bottle-pours a thin somewhat creamy white head. Color is a cloudy straw-orange. A nice mild ale with good carbonation level.

Bottle. Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Big banana aroma. Some banana/clove flavors and not a lot of wheat. Refreshing and easy to drink.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Quite different from the Sam Adams Weiss Bier. This is more of an American interpretation of a German wheatbeer. More dry and less fruity than a typycal Bavarian Wheat. Lacks some refinement I think. Full orangey colour and a very finy white and creamy head.

In my previous rating I had scored this as very much the definition of boring american wheat. Clean and bland, with a score of 2.7. A recent tasting of the new batch leads me to believe the recipe may be different. Poured a fairly cloudy golden color, foaming head a bit small for style. Aroma clean, a bit of citrus, but mainly spicy and herbal noble hops! This beer is quite hoppy. The flavor seems dominated by spicy flavoring hops, and there’s a long bitter finish, whereas I would expect a hefe to finish quickly with little hop aftertaste. I’m not trying to rate to style here, rather I just find this slightly citrusy, slightly spicy wheat beer somewhat nice and drinkable but less enjoyable than it could be because the hops really do seem to clash.

This beer is a hazy yellowish orange color with a thin white head. Thin and quick lacing. The aroma is light citrus, along with wheat and a pinch of spice. Light-bodied and somewhat crisp with wheat, orange and hops flavors. As with many Sam Adams beers, the execution is very good in making a mediocre beer. Not complex, but well-made. The finish is refreshing and citrusy. Overall an easy to drink Hefe that doesn’t break any ground in the category.

2004 bottle. Pours a hazy, bottle conditioned golden-yellow, just the way I like an American wheat. Aroma is lightly citrusy (lemon and light orange), hints of spicy yeast and some mineralesque tasting flavors, probably coming from the yeast as well. Maybe a hint of banana. Flavor is of dry wheat and citrus mixed together, quite crisply, with a good spiciness coming from the hops. A very refreshing beer if nothing else. I seem to always say that Sam Adam’s beers lack any really exciting complexities and this one is no exception. Well-made and drinkable, but it just dosent hit the upper tier when compared to say, Oberon. No funky yeasty esters, no extra chewy, meaty body (the Sam has too much wateriness after it has warmed even a little). But then, it’s perfect for a light drink on a hot summer day. . .but so is Oberon. . . oh well.
