Cask at The Hope, Carshalton. It pours very dark brown, with a decent beige head. The nose is cocoa powder, roasted malt, dark fruit, charcoal and smoke. The taste is charcoal, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, tar, touch of ash and some dark fruit, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well balanced. All-round a good cask stout.

Bottle. Just about black with a coat of beige head. Gentle aroma with mocha, plums, hints of spices. Taste has chocolate and hazelnuts, very gentle drying bitterness. A little under-ripe plummy sourness too. Rather overcarbonated for its subtle charms - better as it sat for a while.

Flaska köpt i en liten ölbutik i W Sussex. Fyllig, stout med rund, len och något söt smak. Mörkrostade toner av choklad och kaffe. Bra exempel på välgjord engelsk stout.

Bottle 50cl. Black colour with off-white head, persistent, good lacing and creamy. Aroma is in a first impression smoky, then is toasted malt. Taste is dry, roasted malt, smoke, chocolate. Medium bitterness and medium body, dry beer with a long aftertaste to roasted malts.

Gravicask at the Angel mini beer festival, Kelvedon. Dark red- brown beer, clear. Residual white head. Light semi dry palate. Mild dark malt, not roasty or bitter. A little tangy fruit underneath keeps things interesting. Semi dry finish. Alright.

Bottle from a pretentious beer, cheese, tea etc, etc emporium in Crystal Palace. Black pour with a tan head. Smoky old nose with hints of chocolate. Licorice, coffee and dark chocolate flavours. Quite pleasant. Dry, roasty finish.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a modest, bubbly off-white head. Strong roast and smoke aroma with some dark malts and light cheese. Lightly sweet, some faintly tart fruits and hard malts. There is some ashiness at first but subsides with time. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Has a nice, malty finish with some nice, bitter chocolate notes and light roast. Good stuff.
