Bottle at The Wyndham Arms, Salisbury: 12th Oct 2013. Dark and tasty: poured into a Hop Back badged pint sleeve it looked good. A full and deep tanned crown sat above the rich looking black body. The nose soon filled with chocolate and malty molasses, my mouth filled with the same flavours very quickly afterwards. Rich, smooth and very drinkable, mild peat notes, but not really burnt or smokey in nature, just well roasted malts doing their thing with enough bitterness to help the hops give the beer a healthy dry finish.

Cask at the Shirley (Solihull) Beer Festival 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is coffee and roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter with lots of liqourice, malt and spicy hops. The palate is a little weak, but not a bad pint.

Cask at The Hope, Carshalton. It pours very dark brown, with a decent beige head. The nose is cocoa powder, roasted malt, dark fruit, charcoal and smoke. The taste is charcoal, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, tar, touch of ash and some dark fruit, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well balanced. All-round a good cask stout.
