Burnt coffee and an artificial blueberry taste. Really poor.

This 12 oz bottle came from Mr. T's locally, glad to get a single since I'm dubious about blueberry as an adjunct to an imperial stout. Prove me wrong, Founders. A tulip glass in place and I pour. As dark a brown as you can get followed by a thin but steady skim of light tan foam. The nose, well, it has a berry scent and not much else I can discern. The taste, it is likewise berry heavy and it does seem to be blueberry. I have had malt liquors with less blueberry influence. There is also some sweet chocolate, raisins and grain. I find the sensation to be level with the other KBS brews. Blueberry imperial stout, fruity, sweet and a bit sour too. Not exactly my thing.

12 ounce bottle. Jet black pour. Finger high tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and blueberries. Flavor is big and berryfull .Notes of coffee, chocolate, oak, bourbon and tangy berries. Smooth and silky, but notes of warming alcohol keep you focused on the bigness of this brew. This was bottled on 7/11/2023, so it is very young. I’d expect that the big berry character might mellow with a bit of aging. Still , this is a tasty brew.

12oz bottle from Boise Co-op. Near black pour with a bubbly beige head. Aroma is chocolate and blueberries. Taste is sweet, jam, chocolate, roast. Sweet, sticky, drying out towards the finish. Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would.

On tap at First Draft - Chicago, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of blueberries, vanilla and a touch of bourbon. Flavour is full of deep bourbon and blueberries, with vanillin, bourbon and deep blueberries. I usually don't care too much for fruited stouts but this works beautifully. The bourbon is still there and the blueberries come across very well.

Big nope on this one. Granted, fruited stouts are a hard sell for me anyway, but the bright, sweet, artificial blueberry notes here ruin any normal KBS goodness. I know, corporate takeovers mean nonstop brand extensions, but, shit, KBS used to be special. Now it’s a jumping-off point. Fuck.

12 ounce bottle from Festival Northland, 8/22/23. Black, thin fizzy dark brown head, poor retention. Aroma of roast, coffee, chocolate, blueberry, coffee grounds. Taste is roast, caramel, smoke, coffee, chocolate, blueberry, hint of grape. Strong booze. Solid.
