The Meerts Tilquin series was made by fermenting fruit that had already been used once. Pinot Gris grapes were fermented for a period of 4 months in a blend of 80% 1 year old Meerts and 20% of a blend of different 2 year old lambics. Meerts (or March Beer) is a low strength lambic, which was originally produced with the weaker wort obtained from the rinsing of the grains. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, they are refermented in the bottle.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy golden body under a white head. Aroma is funky with grapes, white berries, mild wood and lemon. Taste has some fruity sweetness but also quite high acidity. Berries, pale malt, wood, funk and lemon. Medium body with a tart, funky aftertaste. The impact from the grapes is less distinct here compared with Reisling version IMO.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2020 / 2021 vintage bottle. Aroma is moderately grape forward with nice fruity notes and a bit of grape must. Light earthy, herbal must notes with light stone fruit and faint lemon notes. Honest of oak and alcohol. Light grain notes. Pours a hazy golden straw color with a small, thick, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers before disappearing. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly acidic with a light sweetness and light grain notes. Low bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderate fruity grape notes with some light must. Light earthy, herbal must with some light stone fruit notes and faint lemon. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid lambic and my favorite Meerts so far. This one might be the least tart and does have a bit more fruit notes, but they still play a bit of a secondary role to the base lambic.

Bottle from the Meerts box, Hopduvel. Vintage 2020-2021. Hazy golden, quickly thinning, white head. Aroma of ripe orange, apricot skin, white grape, wet straw, oak, thyme, pink peppercorns. Taste has very sour orange, apricot & grape wrapped into a sourdough-like, bit yoghurty malt body, surrounded by bitterish and funky straw & wood. Tart finish of grape skin, citric acid, some herbal & peppery notes and wet oak tannins. Medium body, slick-moussy texture, average carbonation. Dry and refreshing, in terms of complexity a more 'elementary' grape lambic.

Tart. Nice pinot gris aroma. A bit of the leathery character. It comes across fairly sweet, finishing balanced.

A taster shared with Josh, Matt, Phill, and Ryan during FHF with priceless Rachel's (yup, again!) help in organizing all the mess with glasses. Appearance: hazy blonde with a white head. Aroma: funky, juicy. Taste: same, a bit dry. Overall: good.

Bottle, last of a box that's been interesting and very good. Gold with a very brief white head. Aroma of funky grapes, sacking, old lemons, wheaten crackers. A fair bit of body. Medium-low carbonation. Modestly but insistently sour and off-dry. Tired grapes, Korean pear, crackers, light woody spices. Funky but wildly so. The fruit is restrained but the balance is fabulous.

375mL bottle, pours a hazy bright golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out musty white grape skins, gentle funk, and some earthiness. Flavour has a nice white wine grape must, moderate funk, light-to-moderate acidity, and musty earthiness. Nicely funky and decent expression of the grapes for second usage. Very good.
