0.5l bottle kindly traded with ElDesmadre. This one pours a clear deep deep ruby body and it has a medium sized light brown head. On the aroma this is sweet with lots of licorice, some alcohol and roasted tones of chocolate and malts. Perhaps a little bit of purple fruits as well. In the flavor I get dried cocoa powder, chocolate and a little bit of roastiness. It's quite soft on the carbonation and it has a somewhat thin but slick texture. Light sweet as well, and it's what I would call tasty. Leaving the mouth with nice hints of prickling booze. Not to exciting, but yeah, tasty! I enjoyed this one. 19.04.2012

500ml Bottle picked up in London while visiting my son. This bottle had a best before date of 2 Dec 2011 and was reviewed over Easter 2011. The beer pours a rustic reddy brown, not a true Porter black. I found coffee and fennel in both the smell and taste, in equal quantities. Neither were over stated, but they were the over riding flavours throughout the tasting, allowing nothing else to get at my tastebuds. The body reminded me of the better dark lagers produced in Germany more than a Baltic Porter, so rather thin body wise. OK, but I’ll not be rushing back to get a crate load.

Clear dark reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit and yeasty. Flavor is quite sweet. Dry finish. Not roasted in any way. Feels more like a Belgian with the dried fruit and yeast. 070811

Chevy Chase Wine and Liquors, DC 500ml ($3ish): Pours a light mud brown with a little head that leaves pretty quickly. Really light alcohol aroma with some caramel and a bunch of sugar. Body is on the thin side. Beer is kind of sweet, but not as cloying as it can be. In any case, it leaves some of that sticky feeling in your mouth. This is like that fancy chocolate that is the last one any body will eat out of the variety box. I think that sums this beer up pretty well.

Bottle at Bodega in La Crosse. The beer is an amber-brown color with a medium foamy beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and caramel. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, fruit and a hint of coffee. The finish is short and malty. Straightforward example of the style all around.
