Brewery De Sleutel on the Varkenmarkt in Dordrecht could call itself the oldest brewery in the Netherlands for years, because De Sleutel was founded in 1433. That wasn't the only title they had. In 1935, De Sleutel was one of the last Dutch breweries that still brewed beer in a traditional way. The brewery was acquired by Heineken in 1953. Ultimately, the brewery existed until 1968 but Heineken brewed the Sleutel Bokbier annually until 2001.
Brewed till 2001. Brouwerij de Sleutel in 1953 volledig werd overgenomen. Uiteindelijk bestond de brouwerij tot 1968 en Heineken presenteerde tot 2001 jaarlijks het Sleutel Bokbier.

Bottle, best before 1989, so 1987 vintage, tased 20 years old. 6,5% on the label. Deep dark brown color, still traces of a head. Strong caramel and porto aroma. Has thinned considerably over the years, but still very well drinkable. Caramel, licorice and porto in the flavor. Hint of fusel alcohols. Interesting to observe how this beer has developed over the years.
