Bügelverschlußflasche: Reddish amber coloured, thin foamy layer, sweetish-malty nose with a - quelle surprise - aroma of smoked wood and hints of alcohol; sweetish and light bitter flavour, light bodied, almost a bit watery; short, sweetish malty finish with a roast-malty bitterness. Not the greatest smoked beer, but still pleasant..............

(bottle, with thanks to pivnizub) Clear, dark amber colour with a short foamy beige head, that turns quickly into a creamy layer. Sweet dark malty aroma with a rather subtle smokiness. Soft sweet flavour, moderate smoked malty taste, smooth carbonation with an almost creamy mouthfeel; well-balanced bitterness towards the finish with a lingering smoked aftertaste. One of the most elegant smoked beers I had so far, compared to a Schlenkerla Märzen, but I still prefer the latter. Very good.

Having loved this so much the first time. This smoked lager, after re-rates at Abseits, Huttn and the brewery’s keller, has disappointed. Each sample has had butter, such that the beer is like buttered bacon, but not really in a good way. One of few buttery rauchbiers.
