(33cl bottle, courtesy of DerDoppelbock) Hazy, dark amber coloured, effervescent hue with a big and bubbly beige foamy head. Sweet roast-malty aroma with caramel/toffee and chocolate. Sweet flavour, roast-malty, slightly yeasty taste with caramel, liquorice and a touch of chocolate; medium bodied with a lively carbonation; malt-accented, slightly bitter and rounded spicy finish. Good.

33cl bottle from Deca. Hazy russet colour with lasting beige head. Bit of dry malt, some choc. This is a very choccy malty bruin. Itβs got some alcohol heat and depth. Itβs decent, fine, but unchallenging.

Bottle. Cloudy light brown color with a average to large frothy good lacing mostly lasting off-white head. Aroma is light malty and yeasty, caramel. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is lively to fizzy, finish feel is light alcoholic. Very nice.

(Bottle 33 cl) Rather unusual "Bruin" with itβs muddy brown appearance - but typical for Deca. Nice, dense head. Typical notes of roasted malt with a fine balance between itβs sweetness and bitterness. Nice dark ale that comes close to some of the dark trappists. 160599

Bottled 33cl (BB 07/2006)
Hazy dark red-brown color, big creamy and lacey expresso head. Aroma is malty, metallic and spicey: cloves, not very strong. Flavor is quite similar to Vleteren Alt (which has also same 8% ABV). Dry coffee mouthfeel with late sweetness from plums. Woody notes. When yeast is poured to glass, it rounds dryness of mouthfeel to softer palate . Hides alcohol quite well, good balanced and even refreshing despite being bruin and having so much alcohol.

A red-brown beer with a huge light brown collapsing head. The aroma is spicy and yeasty, but also with some weird dusty note. The flavor is sweet with notes of berries, yeast, as well as hints of caramel. The mouthfeel is flat and smooth.

Dark amber color; the head disappears quickly. Aroma of caramel, carbonic gas, bread. Very thin mouthfeel, dry, caramel and quite strong liquorice. Too poor.

(Tasted under the name of Bakkers' Zoete Zonde) Deep chestnut colour; very huge brownish head. Marzipan, rosewater in the nose, dark & sweet malts, a bit smoked note. There is some sweet malt but, strangely enough ("Zoete Zonde" means "sweet sin"!), bitter and even sourish carbonation determine the main taste. Palate is very much chocolate. Thick, warming mouthfeel - but lacking singularily in lustre or satisfaction. The name says it all, after all, it delivers nothing less, and certainly nothing more.

Re-rate: Bottled, 2001 vintage 3l bottle. (7.0%) Rich deep aroma of red berries. Cloudy nut brown. Sweet, malty and velvetty. Rich mature and complex. A totally different beer than the last bottle I tried.
Old rating: Bottled. Dark amber. Neutral nose. Sweet and clean. Yeasty. sharp, and lacking in character. (4/3/3/2/7 1.9)
