When I parked next to the brewery tap to buy some beer the brewery seemed to be in a pretty bad shape. An old and badly maintained building, old kettles and the brewery tap seemed a bit dirty and not changed a bit in 40 years or so. Like always, there were a few older men drinking beer. I bought bottles to take home and when I got back into the car, two fat teenage schoolgirls sitting at the bus stop next to the brewery giggled at me. Now tasting this Vollbier I think the giggling made sense. A bad, malty, soapy odor, in which the farms in the direct neighborhood are smellable. A rather dirty flavor with malt, oil, boiled milk and sulphur. Hoppy oily finish. This brewery is dirty and you can taste it!

Bottle 500ml. @ home.Clear medium to dark yellow color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting - diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, grain, hay, sour malt, fruity, old malt, dusty. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20100723]

Bottle (purchased at the brewpub): Clear, golden, smaller, quite stable lacy head, clean sweet-malty and distinctive floral hoppy nose; soft, smooth MF, light to medium bodied; soft and lingering floral hops - sticking to the palate - in the bitter-sweet finish. A spicy, tasty Vollbier, good even by franconian standards..............

(bottle, bought at the brewpub yesterday morning) Slightly hazy, golden colour with s short foamy white head. Light-sweet and malty, subtle fruity (pears) nose with notes of barnyard in a pleasant way. Moderately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, soft carbonation. Malty, slightly chalky and fruity taste; slightly grainy, malt-accented finish with a light bitter hoppy touch. Soft and pleasant Helles. btw I second Edosยด impression, that the brewery and tap are in a very sordid condition.
