Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Bottle from Bierzwerg. Poured dark brown with a white head. Caramel and hops in aroma, spicy notes as well, but can´t figure out what spices. Flavour is caramel and some roasted malt, dark fruity. Hops in finish, which is quite dry. Strange brew, but quite interesting.

Used a snifter from a bottle. Deep brown, damn near black. Thick fluffy full, off white head thats lasts to the end. Full sheets and layers of lace. Great eye appeal. Nose is dark fruit, raisins and barely. Flavor is very earthy taste. Nuts, barley, caramel, light chocolate. Finish a little thin for a bock. but still pretty damn good. This isn’t a style I have much experience with. It MUST be on the higher end of a Dunkler Bock. Ok, brew.

Clear dark brown beer. Crispish palate. Rich malt with a distinct marmite tone and a little bitter hop fruit in the finish. Not bad but a tad bitter.

Bottle: Very deep amber coloured, bigger stable tanned head; moderate to solid dryish toasty-fruity (dried berries) nose with a vinous touch; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; increasing hoppiness towards the moderate to solid fruity-toasty finish. Good, good.....

(bottle, 35.5cl) Clear, dark brown colour with a ruby shine and a dense and thick tanned foamy head. Dark malty aroma with notes of caramel, chocolate, herbs and nuts, accompanied by a tinge of dried fruits. Roasty bitter and slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a pleasant carbonation. Dark and roasted malt-character with an almost dry mouthfeel, notes of caramel and chocolate with herbal hops; bitter and slightly sweet roast-malty finish with dark chocolate in the aftertaste. Pleasant. 08.IV.11
