Bottle from Maruhn, Darmstadt
Dark mahogany color with red shades; generous, compact head. The aroma is somehow disappointing, with corn, paper, some caramel. The body is just a bit stronger than a regular Lager, not much Bock; there is a quite strong caramel flavor, but with a dryish feeling; also, some chestnut honey flavor; but in general, no sweetness; some mildly roasted nuts, and a late light touch of liquorice. The bitterness is medium-low, coming from the caramelized sugars. Very average.

Bottled (BZ, BB 02/2011)
Dark brown color, decent beige head. Odd aroma of saccarine and paper. Medium to full bodied. Strange industrial flavor. Lacks typical maltyness of German bock. Has caramel, a bit of chocolate, plums and odd herbal vibe, perhaps Jägermeister? Not very alcoholic although it is over 7%.

Bottle. It pours a clear, dark amber to brown body under a fingerthick beige head leaving lacings. Dried dark fruits, hints of roasted malts and a faint note of dms in the aroma. Quite nice actually, but a bit simple. The flavor has the added joy of some bitterness, with prunes, sweetness and some roasted malts up front. Hints of alcohol too. Full-bodied and nicely carbonated. The finish has dried fruits and some hoppy bitterness. A quite nice bock that I would like to have some food with. 090707
