Empire Pale is matured for a minimum of three months in the brewery to replicate the length of a sea journey from England to India in the 19th century. The beer is then bottled with live yeast and will continue to improve and mature under glass.

Bottle picked up at The Grog Shop, Oxford, 17-08-06.Poured amber coloured, maybe I’m being a bit harsh but much like the last beer of Burton Bridge’s that I tasted (Tickle Brain) this one has that same harsh alcohol taste, ok so it’s not quite as rough as the Tickle Brain but it’s still there and for me it takes the shine off what I know is a well brewed and probably quaility beer. Not particularly hoppy, little bit sticky, this beer has a lot going for it but it needs the edges smoothing off.

50 cl bottle brought over from England by a friend. Label sais "Burton Empire Pale Ale". Shady orange color with a huge white to tan lasting creamy head. Fresh hoppy a bit fruity scent, very refreshing with a clear apricot touch to it, could be some Chinook hops in there. Hoppy and sweet taste with a hint of alcohol. Medium high bitterness. Normal mouthfeel. Fresh and bitter aftertaste. It’s does not have enough kick though! It needs more bitterness and more hoppy taste to make it better!

500ml bottle-pours a big, 2+ finger foamy to rocky offwhite head with hazy yellow/orange color. Aroma is hops, grassy, musty, citrus, floral. Taste is bitter-no citrus, slightly tart, medium body, malt, , woodiness, alcohol. RB has style as English Stong Ale, even though the label has IPA. English Stong Ale IS the taste of this beer. Enjoyable for one and then moving along to something else.

Pours is a cloudy orange with a nice sized white head. Aroma is a faint hops smell. Flavor is a very sweet hop and light malts. Hops are light as well as any citrus flavor. It says heavily hopped on the bottle but i don’t get it. Not realy bad but not a cask IPA that I had in mind.

[At Fete de la Biere 2004, Lausanne] An orange beer with absolutely no head. The aroma is of oranges and hops. The flavor is strong of oranges and with very distinct notes of alcohol, that gives the warmth on an already hot day.

Thanks to Shag for bringing this to the Georgia 14% gathering! Hazy pour of yellow-orange beer with an average sized white head. Bubblegum and honey in the aroma. Sweet malty flavor is sorely needing a dose of hops to bring it back into balance. There is some bitterness, but not to the degree expected of an IPA Typical of many British IPA’s produced today I’m afraid.

Amber colour with a dense white head. Super sweet bubble-gum aroma with hints of hops, citrus and even tropical fruit...VERY complex! Medium-bodied; Strong flavour filled with with malt and a bit of the hops. Aftertaste filled with alcohol, malt and a subtle spiceyness. Overall a decent beer-aroma is great, taste isn't all it could be! I bought this 50 cL bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 16-October-2003.
