Historians have several theories regarding the name and origin of this beer, but none is conclusive. One explanation is ”to flow or pour” for the word scotch as the beer should be poured into a glass before drinking. Sauce!
It all started with a version from a stout series called Grand. A series that we had started brewing in America and then brought back to our brew-house in Sweden. And a version with all the caramel crunchiness you could ever need in a beer. A part of a journey towards the perfect stout, towards utopia. Step by step, beer by beer, on and on. Forever!
We took that beer and let it sit in Kentucky rye whiskey barrels for a while. That's it. Sound simple? Well, it isn't. But, there's no way as complex, labor intensive, and patient trying to explain it as it is to do.
Emptying the barrels, we split the beer up into two versions. A straight-up barrel-aged one. This one, Butterscotch. And, a coffee version, with coffee from our buddies at Gringo Nordic Roasters, called Irish Coffee. The beers' names are what they taste like—making the complicated understandable. Candy!

--Sample, thanks fonefan! -- Viscous black, no head. Aroma of chocolate sauce with a whiff of bourbon. Sticky sweet with full body and syrupy mouthfeel. Chocolate sauce and mud cake. Achingly sweet finish with some bourbon heat. Another sticky, one-dimensional mess from Dugges. The decay in quality from this once great brewery is monumental.

Sample (thanks fonefan!). More or less pitch black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is toasted nuts, some butterscotch, fudge, vanilla, and a bit popcorn things too. Flavour is toasted nuts, alcohol, chocolate syrup, some liquorice, toffee, Werther's Original kind of toffee/caramel to it with a bit fudgy and toasted tones. Actually has a somewhat dry finish, which makes it nice, as the dry palate cuts the attack of the sweetness somewhat.

Can. slighlty phenolic aroma, also roasted malts, caramel, butter. faint booze, not much wood. a bit too phenolic for me to really like it. Looking a lot forward to try the coffee version. Flavor is very smooth, a bit too much alcohol taste, roasted malts, booze, light caramel (think toffifee), the alc. is really in the way, creating too many phenolic notes in an otherwise mild and quite balanced beer. the part of the flavor that I don't like reminds me of mikkeller black (i think it was) where they had used enzymes, and although I am not sure that was why, that one also had this nailpolish phenolic flavor and aroma component that was not nice.
