Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines. Different design now. See pic. Quick rate because last rate disappeared. Clean enough with a bit of a wood shavings thing. Earthy bitterness.

Flaska från Bierothek. Klar gyllengul vätska med medelhögt vitt skum. Krispig med örtig och gräsig humle, hö, blommor, bröd, säd och en lätt honungssötma. Gott

Bavarian style pale lager - so a 'Münchener' Helles almost by definition - from a brewery in the Nürnberg region, 50 cl swingtop bottle received as a gift from my boss. Opens with a hiss. Intricately cobweb-lacing, medium thick, off-white, very mousy head eventually showing a complicated pattern of patches and openings in the middle, over a crystal clear, pure 'metallic' golden beer with deeper 'old gold' tinge and no visible sparkling. Aroma of sweet half-baked grains, white bread pulp, margarine, minerals, fresh camomile flowers (softly), apple peel, subtle touches of moist white pepper, cream, soda and buttered hot corn (even if this one definitely does not contain any corn - it respects the Reinheitsgebot, like the vast majority of German Lagers). Malt-sweetish onset, rounded and cereally from the start with a vague touch of apple and perhaps unripe banana, fizzily carbonated with refreshing minerally side effects; slick, very slightly oily mouthfeel, very smooth cereally and white-bready maltiness with a sharper grainy edge, but generally remaining malt sweetish and 'to the point' with no off-flavours, even if I do get a very, very faint metallic accent somewhere. Remains malt sweetish, cleanly bready and very rounded till the end with those mineral notes remaining, but a soft, grassy and eventually even lightly leafy and floral hop bitter note shows up all the way at the back, brief and mild, yet providing an extra, different accent that fits neatly into the whole and gently lingers a bit afterwards, even if that pale malt sweetness remains the core business till the very end. Simple and straightforwardly pale malt sweet but pure and clean with only a soft and late, yet elegant hoppy touch: this is indeed a Helles 'pur sang', an ideal introduction to this relatively 'quiet' old Lager style, I reckon. No flaws here, completely fitting the Helles frame without adding anything to it, this is about as stereotypical for the style as it gets. Nothing wrong here, but I had my fair share of Helles beers by now, and even if this is certainly exemplary for that particular segment, it is hard to call it exciting, either...

Just a bit perfumed malt aroma. Malty flavor with a touch of hops. Perfumed. Some apple and orange fruit hidden in the background.
