Superficial festival rating at Brew Festival, Oslo 2022. Friday session. Black body under a small beige head. Strong aroma, dark roasted malt, coffee and a fruity touch. Taste is medium sweet, dark roasted malt, coffee, hint of fruit and nice bitterness. Fine body and pleasant aftertaste. Nice one.

On tap at Brew Festival. It pours a dark brown body under a dense finger-thick beige head. Some curtains. The aroma has oats and roasted malts, some burnt notes, as well as bread, toffee and some molasses. A light fruityness too. It's full-bodied, warming and smooth on the palate, not too sweet, with mostly dark malty flavors. Burnt and roasted malts, toffee, molasses hints and some alcohol. A light piney, fruity hoppyness in the back. Lasting finish. Quite delicious this one, blending hops and malts in a very nice way. 220429

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM I think. Pours black with a dense, lasting, creamy beige head. Medium sweet flavour with strong ashy roast, earth, burnt meat, orange, pine, baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied with fine, massaging carbonation and velvety texture. Great balance to finish, more sturdy roast, ashy dryness, torched rubber and pine, citrus fruits. Superb.

On tap at Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. Black colour, tan head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of mild coffee and dark chocolate. Nice roasty flavour too, mild coffee and dark chocolate again, distinct bittering hops, piney. Good beer, but lacks the expected fruity notes from these 3 hop varieties.

Bottle at home, 22nd April 2022. Pours a black and fairly viscous porter, tan head. Aroma is mellow, cocoa, light fruit and hops, aromatic. Shit the bed, this is good. Taste is bitter, cocoa, dry, aromatic, smooth, dark chocolate, light fruit, loads of complexity. Great dark beer from Kernel

Bottle from HoTM. It pours pretty much black, opaque with a dark tan / brown head which hangs around until the last mouthful. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, chocolate covered coffee bean, charred pine, lovely depth of tropical fruits, bit of pineapple, melon, white grape, gooseberry, rocky road, bounty bar and some jaminess. The taste is rich roasted malt, a pleasing hit of bitterness, charred pine, peppery spice, toasty, umami, salted liquorice, tar, dark chocolate, espresso coffee, zingy citrus, nice depth of fruit, white grape, melon, kiwi, pineapple, dried fruits, touch of fruit cake and light alcohol presence. Finish is bitter roasted vibes. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. Another winner in this series. So much depth and robustness. Lovely.
