Aroma of grassy hop with some toasted malt. Dark reddish amber color with a very impressive beige head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is smooth, a bit of roasted malt (not toasted), with a decent amount of hop bitter. I can imagine a touch of chocolate. Finish is fairly dry and somewhat bittered. It’s not black. It doesn’t seem to be a schwarzbier in flavor. It’s pleasant, but isn’t it an amber lager?

Nice yeasty aroma, clean and fresh. Taste starts out strong then fades rapidly to a thinner palate. Creamy carbonated texture. Has a roasty feel about it. Medium malt finish. The appearance has a yellowish tinge to a mostly dark brown beer. IMHO, overall, quite mellow and acceptable for a schwartz!

Bottle. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Red-amber color with giant beige head. Slightly sweet caramel malt flavor with a hint of cherry. In the 80s, this was one of the best US beers out there. Still a decent beer.

12oz bottle-pours a thick foamy to rocky light tan head and dark amber/brownish color. Aroma is dark malt/grain-caramel/towards chocolate, slight hops. Taste is dark malt/grain-caramel/towards chocolate, secondary hops bite. Nice medium body, nothing special but solid. Good carbonation.

This bottle was brewed in the EU. Pours dark brown with absolutely no head, although the beer itself was rather fizzy. Dried fruit in the aroma and a similar taste, quite nice malt flavours. Practically no aftertaste. The bottle I had was a few months out of date, so perhaps it wasn’t the best example to judge the beer on.

Test vom 17.12.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 7,10,10,7,12,9 - 8,95

Bottled at RBESG-06, GTN. Clear, dark brown, with a beige head. Roasted aroma with some chocolate and mocha. The flavor is quite wead, with roasted malt, chocolate and some coffee. Thin and watery body. Starts good, ends boring. (060826)

RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. Dark brown colour. Malty sweet aroma with notes of vomit. Unpleasant. Sweetish moderately malty flavour with nothing to delight you. Pass.
