Had this at the Tatooed Widow cafe/bar, Kobenhaven 14-09-08 in compay of Ian (Harrisoni) and Martin Pours murky yellow with a humongous white head of foam, tangy soft cooked lemons come through, bit soapy on the nose.

Pour is a murky brown with a white head. Aroma is yeasty and floral with some spice added. Flavor is way off. some butterscotch and an odd tasting orange flavor. This is un-like any saison I’v ever had. Maybe this is a bad bottle but if not this is a pretty poor saison and not even close to the style.

Bottle (Jan 08? or 07?) from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Opened a true gusher. Copper color with lots of beige head. Lots of honey and malt aroma. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Flavor is malt, pale stone fruit, and hot spicy notes. There’s some funk. Finish is more dry than not. Turns a bit tart. Fairly tasty ale.

Bottle, 33cl. Pours an orange-golden body with lots of floaties, under an off-white to beige head. Sweet, fruity nose with a touch of spices. The flavor follows the same path, but the fruityness is a bit toned down compared to the aroma, and there’s also some honeyish notes. It finishes bitter and with some heather-like notes. Thin to medium mouthfeel. Nice in a way, but as with their Saisis, I’m not quite sure about this one. (071027)

33 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a little lacin head. Toffee and roasted caramel malt aroma, hints of rye. Caramel flavoured with a slight herbal note giving the classic saison flavour with a mild acidity. Shows a slight bitterness leveling just above the acidity in the finish. Has a persistent toffee malt note all the way through.

I usually keep clear of the ellezelloise beers considering how pricey they are, but I can’t really pass up a saison I haven’t had - cloudy golden orange pour, with a fizzy body and a lasting film of foam covering the top - earthy and yeasty in the nose, with moderate spicy hops, notes of orange and peach, and subtle breadiness - soft mouthfeel considering the bubbly body - fairly dry, peppery and hoppy at first, followed by a mild bready quality, citrus and pear notes - zesty, stronger pepper flavors crop up at the end, as the beer dries out once more and finishes with light flowery touches - a nicely balanced, and quite tasty saison.

Cloudy orange with a big frothy white head. Fruity aroma with lemon and pineapple, some berries, spice and caramel. Somewhat sour with caramel sweetness, hop flavour and bitterness, and a spicy finish.
