After a reassuring pop from the tiny little swingtop bottle, a fruity and vinous aroma permeates the air. Some vinegar and tannic notes too. A vigorous pour yielded a finger of white head that lasted about eight seconds. Tiny white bubbles top the muddy apple juice colored liquid. More sniffing hints at sour and tart notes, not what I’d expect in a Saison. At first sip, the flavor is dry and dusty. Lots of barnyard funk, tannic, hay, grass, and very light fruity bits. Peppery, esters, malty, and musty. Very complex. Easy drinking in a way, but the peppery bits stick to the roof of my mouth and seems to linger...

33cl Swingtop bottle from De Bierkoning. Cloudy orange colour, creamy white head. Aroma of fruity yeast notes, oranges, bit of sugar. Flavour is sweet at first, peach, bitter oranges, spicy yeast, flowery wheat, drying grassy and dusty bitter finish. Dry mouthfeel, medium bodied. Nice, tastes and smells like a regular Belgian ale at first, and like a good Saison in the finish.

0.33 l swingtop bottle, two bottles provided by Elliott. Pour is mostly clear copper with a smallish white head. Aroma of iron, metallic, dirt, grain then some wheat. Some grass and toffee in there as well. Muddled nose. Taste is caramel, honey - very meaty sweetness. The metallic element comes through as well. Weird tasting. Palate is medium, almost no carbonation, finish is more of the metal. This was my least favorite Saison for the evening. Thanks for bringing these Elliott.

Rich, dark golden color. Nice white head. Aroma of rich malt and honey. Thich, rich malt flavor with honey and fruit. Sweet and somewhat like aged sherry. (the bottle wasn’t very fresh…) Spicy. Much richer and heavier than your standard Saison. A surprise. Pretty good, but not really my idea of what a saison should be…

Bügelverschlußflasche: Amber coloured, some floaties visible, creamy persistent off-white head; solid sweet-fruity (pineapple, oranges) nose with a good dash of aromatic hops; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, creamy MF, medium bodied; slightly tart, mainly sweet-fruity finish with an aromatic-hoppy tail. Very pleasant brew...........

(33cl swing top bottle) Hazy, orange-amber colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Moderately sweet, slightly yeasty malty aroma with fruity notes of apricots, lemon and peaches, accompanied by a delicately floral hoppy touch and peppery spices. Bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Initially rather slim malty base with fruity and flowery flavours, accompanied by delicate spices and a touch of flowery hops; finishes also rather mild, bitter-sweet and slightly hoppy. Just okay (25.II.09).

bottle, pours a lovely hazy orange, soft frothy white head. Light yeast and orange/lemon aroma. Light bodied mouth that has some interesting flavors. Apple, apricot, some light spicyness. This is fairly complex, without going overboard. There is a slight funk in the finish, which brings the mouth to a lingering grapefruit end. Good stuff.

Pours cloudy amber with off white head. Bready, spicy aroma. Dough and Belgian yeast flavors with some spices. A thick and chewy mouthfeel, not what you would expect from a saison. A decent beer but not what I would reach for if I was in the mood for a saison.

Hazy orange/straw-colored with large head. Orange and coriander flavor with some maltiness. Better than their amber.
