Bottle @ La Gorda Beer Factory in Barcelona which is a small and rustic (in a good way!) but nice and unpretentious bar. I ordered it expecting a Porter so the strong aroma of piny and citrussy hops was very surprising. Black coloured with a nice head. Taste: fruity hops, roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Very balanced. Medium carbonation. Bitter and dry aftertaste. I’m still trying to get my head around Black IPAs as a style but after the initial shock wore off, I quite enjoyed it.

(bottle, 33cl) Dark brown, almost black coloured hue with a beige and tall but collapsing frothy head. Resiny, sprucey hoppy aroma with shades of nuts, roasted malt, hints of dark chocolate and a whiff of coffee. Hop- and roasty bitter flavour, light to medium bodied at best with a slightly fizzy carbonation. Dry dark malt character with slightly roasted notes, dark chocolate and coffee, accompanied by loads of drying and resiny hops; dry and a tad slim nutty, roast-malty and hop-laden finish with notes of dark chocolate, mocha and spruce. 22.VIII.16
