You might call Poor Yorick a dark mild, you also might not. We don’t call it much of anything aside from one of our favorites. It’s brewed with Maris Otter and a thoughtful blend of dark British malts, and gently hopped with Fuggles.

It has notes of homemade chocolate candies, a caramel apple, being close to someone drinking coffee, dried dates, a whiff of vanilla sugar, and some nice dark bread.

16 ounce can from brewery. Hazy, medium brown color. Frothy tan head. Spotty lacing. Subtle roasted malt aroma hints at cocoa powder and earth. Smooth, dark malt flavor upfront. Notes of toasted nuts, light caramel and mild hop spiciness. Easy drinking and quite enjoyable.

At the brewpub: Pours dark blackish brown with a tan head. Aroma is earthy chocolate, light hops. Taste is simple, but really nice. Hoppiness is heavier than one would expect in an English iteration of the style. The sweetness is also very muted. Nice and earthy taste. Bittersweet chocolate is certainly present. Low carbonation body is really pleasant. If I was a British coal miner from the 19th century, I would be really jealous.
