It pours a very dark brown with reddish hues shining through.

Roasted malt in the smell along with a distinct hoppy bitterness.

Roasted malt bitterness up front with a biscuit malt and grain kick backing that up.

Light bodied with medium carbonation.

A very good Schwarzbier.

Old rating rerated 29.07.2014, 0,33l bottle @ Artemis, Celle:
Big creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sweet, caramel malts, nuts, "knekk", hay, grass, hops, hints of chocolate. Taste is slightly dry roasted, caramel malts, hay, burnt caramel, soy sauce, coffee, grass hops. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice.

0,33 l bottle, typical Einbecker bottle design. Dark redbrown in the glass, beige head. Light sweet malt on the nose. Starts with more malt, first low sourness, followed by sweet sequencies.Later low roast malty on a mild level. Hints of Pilsener without herb. Okay.

My 33cl bottle was bought in Berlin: so it is just a ’dunkel’ on the label. Poured into an ’Augustijn’ badged chalice at home on 26 Apr 2013. Ruby coloured body, clean and clear: beige, full head. The nose is more grainy than malty: with dark berry esters thrown in for good measure. The taste is maltier than the aroma hints at and those grain smells don’t appear in the flavours. Undertones of sweetness which don’t surface fully hide behind a mild hop crispness that doesn’t turn the brew bitter or overly dry. Interesting and one of the better German brewed Dunkels I’ve had so far.

330ml bottle. Clear reddish brown colour with small to average, frothy, minimally lacing, off-white head. Minimally sweet, dark malty aroma with a touch of cola, grainy overtones. Taste is dry, dark malty mith a metallic touch, more hoppy to the end.

330ml bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark amber with about a finger of light tan head. Aroma of skunk and malt. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Sweet malt, caramel, and some light hops. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. I got it for a buck so I cant complain too much.

Pours a foggy wood brown, with a light tan frogs’ eggs bubbly head. OK label. Sweetish cereal aroma. A little tinny, tangy, sweet.. Flavor is dominated by the malting. Tannic, woody, sweet aftertaste. Medium beer. Decent, perhaps a little plain.
