Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp,
To guard a title that was rich before,
To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw a perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
Is wasteful and ridiculous excess.
- Shakespeare, King John, Act 4, Scene 2
The Earl of Salisbury may have thought this Double IPA “ridiculous excess”, but, though we have no proof, we’re pretty sure Shakespeare would have enjoyed this ale.

Taster at Loyal Legion. Hazy golden pour, spotty head, rings of lacing. Fruity aroma, sweet. Taste is a little bit citrus, a little bit stone fruit. Dry, chalky feel, mild bitterness, velvety feel
