Svart med lys brunt skum. Lukter kakao, fløte, solbærgele og noe lakris. Middels fylde. Smaker salt lakris, kakaopulver og sitrusskall. Middels lang.

500ml can. Jet black colour with slightly late awakening, average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Relatively weak, roasty, chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of coffee, liquorice, some tobacco. Taste is bitter, roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty, minimally caramel malty, bitter, resinous hoppy with a minimally leafy touch, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, resin, a touch of tobacco, subtle sweetness; lingering, bitter roasty and bitter hoppy finish. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally greasy, simultaneously minimally dry and pungent palate, medium to fine, dense, mildly prickly carbonation. Balanced on a high level, intense and condensed, simultaneously dangerously drinkable - felicitous.

Keg at the Mikkeller London Brewpub, Exmouth Market, 05/09/23. Black with a tan cap that retains well. Nose is earthy roast, umami, bitter chocolate, spice, coffee bean. Taste comprises rich roast, charr, dark fruit rinds, spice, chocolate, toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a balanced spike of alcohol. Not bad.

500ml can. Pitch black, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roast malts, hops. Taste is very rich, chocolate, roast malt, coffee, tobacco, leather, big hoppy and roasty bitterness, boozy finish. Thick full body and very smooth. Outstanding example of the style.

Roast and caramel. Coffee, maybe a lick of leather. Black pour with decent head. Bittersweet finish, but it's the bitterness that sticks with you. A little licorice in the end there. Pretty good stuff. Tap at Mikkeller London.
