This premium beer from McMullen's Hertford Brewery is brewed in honour of Hertford Castle, once a royal palace and the home of Queen Elizabeth I for much of her childhood. A strong ale, Hertford Castle combines natural whole leaf aroma hops, best Suffolk malted barley and McMullen's own pure spring water. The result is a traditional English Bitter with a distinctively floral character fit for King and Queen.

No head. Blackcurrant and apple flavor. Just a hint of maltiness. Not much hoppiness. There's not very much to say about this beer. Drinkable but uninteresting, probably.

From old tasting notes. Crisp, clear Amber orange color with a big creamy beige head. Spicy cloverleaf with a hint of sweet toasted malt. Subtle semi-sweet toasted malt flavor upfront. Mildly tart midtaste. Smooth spicy hoppy character punctuates the finish. Tangy bitter aftertaste. Well rounded with nice balance.
