We wanted to create a true representation of Scotland, away from the tired cliches and usual tropes you might see on TV. A bold and unique idea was needed to showcase Scottish culture in all its glory…

Then we thought, screw that, let’s brew a double deep-fried m*rs bar imperial stout and make it 15.5%.

Deep fried m*rs bars are as synonymous with our country as haggis or Iron Brew, and we wanted to bring this dessert to life in a beer. With Neon Raptor’s help we packed it to the brim with chocolate malt, cacao nibs and an authentic deep-fried taste from adding battered m*rs bars right into the mash tun.

Keg @ Tap and Can. Pours black, thin dark brown head. Aroma oozes sweet unctious caramel and milk chocolate, Mars bar. Flavour profile builds on this wondrously, definitely all about the chocalatey caramel without getting too rich, just enough for the ABV. Intense, but right up my street.

Tap at The Hanging Bat, Edinburgh. Opaque colour and small beige head. Strong sweet peanut butter and nuts aroma. Full-bodied. Liquer mouthfeel. Vanilla, peanut butter, toasted malts, nuts ... hides abv well but is quite sticky stuff.

Taste is chocolate cake, caramel shortbread, fudgy malt, chocolate sauce, brownie, sweet caramel, ice cream with chocolate sauce, toasty roast malt, sweet sugary finish. Treat-like. Plenty of Mars bar, not much deep-fry.

440ml can. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, caramel. Taste is very sweet, loads of chocolate, toffee, caramel, sugary, fudge, yeah it's definitely got some Mars bar vibe going on, warming boozy finish. Full bodied. Feel like this was a bit overhyped but it is very nice to be fair.

Keg at Brewdog Clerkenwell. A thick opaque black coloured pour with a fading thin dark tan head. Aroma is medium sweet, sticky, nesquik chocolate and strawberry milk, milk chocolate and berries. Flavour is composed of medium sweet, chcoclate syrup, caramel, little bitter dark chocolate, fudge. Palate is medium sweet, sticky, mellow carbonation, full. Some hot alcohol. Little one dimensional. Sugary boost.

Keg at BD Clerkenwell, 05/05/23. Black with a good sized tan head. Nose is chocolate, caramel, honeycomb, sweet malts, toffee. Taste comprises caramel, perfume, hint of Mars Bar but not nailing it, brown sugar melt, toffee crisp. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boost offered. Bit of a let down truth be told ... overly sweet (as expected) but not nailing the flavour profile for the name ... okay sipper and no better.
