--Sample, thanks fonefan! -- Clear mahogany colour, small head. Caramelly nose with bourbon and port. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Caramel, dates and oaky bourbon. Warming mid bitter finish. Intense oak, but it takes over almost completely.

Blik thuis geprobeerd. Het is een helder amber bruin bier met een medium beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van caramel en whisky. De smaak is vol, warm, whisky achtig en houtig.

Quadrupel aged on Jim Beam bourbon barrels, from a Dutch craft brewery unfamiliar to me; 75 cl bottle shared by Roman at Meeki’s home tasting, cheers! Greyish off-white, open, dissolving ring of a head on a clear bronze-brown robe with warm mahogany glow. Aroma of clear bourbon upfront, caramel, candied fig, Sultana raisins, apple cake, vanillin-breathing oak wood, candi sugar, brown bread, solventy varnish-like accent. Sweet onset, candi sugary, subdued fruity notes of dried banana and candied fig, some dried orange zest perhaps; medium carb with smooth, supple body, notably caramelly, slick maltiness with brown-bready and honeyish edges. Mild spiciness towards the end, accentuated by the bourbon, while a whiff of oaky ‘vanilla’ appears; some yeasty fruitiness and spiciness linger along, eventually turning bittersweet, with warming alcohol accentuating the flavours rather than disrupting them. Not too shabby for what it is – I would still recommend the barrel aged versions of La Trappe Quadrupel or Chimay Grande Réserve over this, but I must admit that my expectations were considerably less hight than what I got here.
