Brewed with Tomahawk and Simcoe hops. Viven Imperial IPA came from the westcoast of America but is brewed in Flemish style and gives a great result. It will make the beer lovers heart beat a bit faster. An adventure for your senses. Amber coloured with a thin off-white head, Viven Imperial IPA is a good hoppy beer with citrus accents. Fruity nose (peach and pink grapefruit) with floral flavours, recalls a forest (spruce) in the early morning. The hops are prominent. Viven Imperial IPA is pleasently bitter.

A dark orange colour, a head is big and blond. The nose has tropical fruits, mangos and grapefruits, some pine needles, not much of sweetness. Taste is strongly grapefruity, some fruits, sourness of citrusfruits. The bitterness is strong and long lasting. Nice sweetness, read as not too much. Medium+ bodied, strong carbonation. Succesfully DIPA, not too sweet and strong bitterness, balanced.

Drank at the East Meets West and Drinks Too Much event at the Only. Split a bottle with the vociferous and astute Mr. Freaky_tiki. I usually just ogle the amazing bottle beer selection at the Only while drinking too many of what’s on tap. Pours a cloudy red-orange (keeping the questionable bar lighting in mind.) Offers a creamy malt nose with a resin hoppiness. The taste has some nice caramel flavors but is dominated by a resin and perfume hops, with some bittering that carries though to the aftertaste. No too bad.

Bottle to glass at Cafe Rose Red in Brugge. First beer in Brugge at a wonderful bar. Aromas explode out of the glass of fresh citrus hop. Slightly haze pale orange with full white head. Amazing flavor as well for a great start to the trip.

One of the more ’spectacular’ Vivens after the relaunch of the brand, this one launched in 2009. Off-white, creamy head and amber colour with brownish hue, cloudy. Tempting perfume in the nose, roses, apple, bittersweet honey, spiced ’jenever’, mint and lots of herbal and peppery hops. Apply onset, clear and rounded, bit honeyish, quickly overwhelmed by a very powerful, almost agressive, herbal and citrussy hoppiness, creating a long, tingling, dry, bitter finish. Great Belgian interpretation of an American style, I’m all for IPAs and this one can stand the comparison with many of its American congeners.

BOTTLE 33CL from dcmchew. Thanks!

Look:: hazy amber-red, light tan-orangey frothy to creamy head.
Aroma:: strong fruity hops - blackberry, ripe pine-apple, tropical fruit and just a touch of resin, a healthy malt backbone - like a caramel and cream desert.
Taste: again, strong sour-and-sweet fruit balanced by rich caramel and a strong but soft bitter finish. Excellent!
