Good Trip Tripel

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark golden color with a medium sized foamy off white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was musty and yeasty with table sugar and faint golden fruits. The flavor was yeasty and slightly phenolic with table sugar and faint golden fruits. Medium length finish. Medium body. Disappointing given how much I tend to like this style.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent gold with a white head. Aroma of yeast with hints of spice and perhaps banana. Med body or so. Flavor is malt and lightly spicy yeast. Banana is faint, if at all. It’s not really bitter, and it’s not really dry, but there’s a strong flavor that must be yeast related. Maybe I am finally getting some banana. There’s an almost astringent character. There are so many ways tripel seems to get made that I am not sure how close it is to the "ideal" style, but suspect it’s not far off.
