Viven Smoked Porter is a fairly bitter porter beer, with a very smokey flavour. Accents of coffee and dark chocolate make for a powerful aroma in your glass.

Opaque black beer with a thick, foamy beige head. Rich, chocolate malt aroma with a hint of nuttiness.Flavour follows suit and is hearty and rich but with a sharp, tangy fruit edge which only adds to it. You get the hops more as you get through the beer. It really has a bit of everything.

Robust porter and, like their Imperial IPA, launched in 2009; Viven had consisted of rather unobtrusive, cliché beers up till then, but with these two, they suddenly drew a lot of - deserved - attention. Yellowish, thin, moussy head, very dark wine-red colour, almost black, clear. Aroma of smoked bacon, dates, olives, balsamic vinegar, coffee grounds, Worcestershire sauce, stewed beef, charcoal, candied plums. Rich malty taste, caramel, nutty, smoked and roasted bitterness, dry, long and complex, bitter ending further supported by a citrussy, American hoppiness. Wonderful, I wish there were more beers like this available from Belgian brewers.

Riktigt god.
