Viven Smoked Porter is a fairly bitter porter beer, with a very smokey flavour. Accents of coffee and dark chocolate make for a powerful aroma in your glass.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom L. Black with a big brown head. Aroma of roast, coffee, some cocoa notes and mild smoky touch. Roasty and mildly smoky flavor with coffee, dark chocolate, a fruity note and a smoky finish. Rounded mouthfeel, slightly creamy. Very nice.

Rerate of this 'modern classic' - or isn't it yet? Pours cloudy black with a lasting, frothy, beige head; little lacing. 'Dark' aroma of lucifer, burnt wood, cooked ham, sweet tobacco, shag, roasted & salted peanuts, coal. It tastes medium malty sweet, hint of toasted bread, a bit smoky, and light to medium roasted bitter, some fondant; nutty back. Dryish, toasty, herbal hoppy finish, lingering smoky malt & ash. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Still a great beer, and luckily widely available.

Bottle 330ml (BDLX)
Dark brown color, steady small brownish head. Aroma has toasted malts, a bit of smoke and tart notes. Medium-bodied. Sweetish malty, some tar and smoke. Light hoppy note. Quite special Belgian beer but it is of course brewed by Proef who know the stuff.

Thick black with nice creamy light brown head. Lots of smoke, quite meaty, toast, some chocolate and apricot fruitiness. Quite dry and bitter in the finish, medium bodied with creamy feel and slight watery towards the end. Quite nice.

Bottle - Smokey, roast malts and chocolate. Jet black with a rich brown head. Dark chocolate and roast malts, but smoke is in the background. Nice, I just wish there was more smoke in the beer.

Zwart bier met stevige schuimkraag. Smaak is sterk rook achtig met caramel invloed. Blijft lang hangen. Mogelijk niet voor iedereen geschikt.

A black beer with a beautiful, big, creamy and light brown beer. The nose is roasted and coffee, liquirice and some milky sourness. Taste is similar than aroma, coffee, liquirice, nice herbal bitterness. The end is roasted and herbal. Medium bodied, nice and smooth carbonation. Good and liquirice porter.

Bottle at Rootz by the Harbour, Schevenigen. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, light smoke and a little yeast. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a smooth malty chocolate caramel alcoholic liqourice, light hop spice palate and a long bitter finish. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Boy was this good. Super creamy smooth and full of rich flavours. I’ll be having this more often in future.
