Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout

A living room filled by the warmth of a fire, a table packed with food, the cushions of a comfy couch—there are so many great spots to gather. And we have a rich, bourbon barrel-aged stout to pair with all of them. Gatherwell is a full-bodied and, dare we say, decadent stout aged in bourbon barrels for notes of cocoa, vanilla, oak, and a hint of bourbon.

The roasted coffee flavor dominates in the end. Get some cocoa powder and vanilla early on.

Wonderful BBA stout, straightforward and well-made, with a moderate sweetness underlined by notes of cocoa, raisin, caramel, and mocha, followed by vanilla and oak on the back end. Bitter finish is loaded with bourbon and a touch of cascara. Delicious.

12 ounce bottle. Opaque dark brown color. Thick, creamy dark tan head. Aromas of dark, roasted malt, treacle, oak and chocolate. Flavor is complex and rich. Bittersweet chocolate, dark cherries, molasses, vanilla, oak and a hint of bourbon. There is an underlying funkiness that is likely attributed to the abbey ale yeast. Some resiny hops on the backend, as well. Fairly smooth throughout. Very approachable for the style and 11% ABV.

Bottle from the Packie. Inky brown bordering on black with a thin tan head that slowly recedes. Dark chocolate with hints of coffee brown sugar and toffee. Light vanilla and hints of oak. Nice beer that's not sickly sweet.

4 oz draft. Aroma is soft chocolate, mild wood. For a stout it is really mild. I don’t het barrel. Soft vanilla, weak chocolate, weak chocolate. Just ok.

Roasty cocoa, vanilla, light oak. Taste is nice, smooth. Was hoping for more bourbon. Light like a porter.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, cocoa, with a little molasses and a hint of whiskey. Flavors are similar to nose, sweet but not overly so. Roast, whiskey and molasses come out a little more. Boozy finish. Pretty good but not great.

Bottle. Black with no head. Looks like used motor oil. Nose is rather mild, no hint of booze. Taste is whiskey of course. Lots of imperial stout attributes in this; burn damp wood an charred malt. Difficult and boozy. You gottah sip this one fer sure. I think I'm getting a little dizzy. Very strong.
