Fellow Innovators! Late last year we blazed through an unexpected hit of a canned sweet stout release -- there were astronauts and maple syrup! There were grizzly bears and blueberries and DeLoreans! There was #NoTimeToExplain!

We've applied that absurdly delicious finishing treatment to a mix of Fundamental Observation barrels filled throughout 2018, 2019, and 2020, then blended with a chewy, lactose-based sweet stout for a liquid that can only rightly be called: #MoreTimeToExplain!

Huge aromas of ripe blueberry and sweet maple syrup deliver waves of blueberry pancake-stuffed nostalgia. Bright blueberry opens the palate then oaky vanilla from beans and barrel hit mid-palate, tempering the sweetness of a long, maple-rich finish. Lactose delivers a creamy mouthfeel on a velvety base that drinks like the Sunday morning of a three-day weekend.

Tap at Peders, Copenhagen 13/12/2023 Intense dark sweet malty with chocolate, caramel and sticky maple, some nice blueberry coming through as it warms up, smooth mouthfeel and full body, sweet lingering and warming malty finish. Lovely.

Very dark brown, just a thin head. A bit of coffee up front on the nose, followed by blueberries. On the palate it's a blueberry, chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, alcohol, bourbon, just all the things. Sticky maple finish. The aroma is slightly incongruous but it sure comes together nicely on the palate.

Pours black, no real head. Scent is sweet, BBA. Taste is full, roasty, sweet, bit hot. A red-fruit like character, acidic touch behind all the sweetness. Nice.

Clear dark brown beer, no head. Aroma: very oxidized, dusty, lots of caramel, alcohol, sherry and port notes, soy sauce, lots of maple syrup, toasted pecans. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of maple syrup, soft roast, oxidised, some cocoa powder, sugary. Aftertaste: maple syrup, vanilla, sugary, a little vitter, oxidized, some coconut, coffee.

Draft pour enjoyed at Bottle Logic, Anaheim. Dark and dense black pour. Thin fading head. Very sweet indicating nose, rich with maple syrup pancakes, and berry. Not as rich on flavor as I expected. Blue erry pancake for sure, but I get a distinct cherry note as well. Very little barrel impressions, though they are there. This will probably really shine as it warms a little. In the end, smoother drinking than it really needed to be. Solid brew.

Bottle, mooch tasting, courtesy of the gang
Black colour. Aroma of chocolate, maple, with a fruity side. Thick, sweet; cacao upfront, then maple, there is something that tastes like smoke and tobacco, and strong berries too; the alcohol can be perceived; the finish is a bit weird, with all of the above a bit chaotically, but also an oily mouthfeel, and some astringency.
It starts very well, but it finishes below the mark.
