Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

Malt: Pilsner, Light Crystal, Cara-Pils & Wheat
Hops: 4+LBS/BBL
Kettle: Chinook & Columbus
Whirlpool: Cascade, Centennial & Citra
Dry Hop: Cascade, Citra & Columbus
Yeast: American

(Can, 0.473 l - canned 03.01.2019, thanks VastActiv, 20190215) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had pine, citricness and tangerine. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, resin, citricness, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A pleasant hoppy brew.

Fresh can, thanks to Stacey, drunk 7/18/18.
Mostly clear, blonde-golden with a sizable white head showing moderate retention.
Nose is piney, heavy PNW hops with a decent fruitiness; lots of lemon, with a hint of juiciness to the lemon. Spicy, floral, quite aromatic, but most of it being pine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange rind, etc...Malts are seemingly dry, sparse and show light biscuit and cracker. Clean, no alcohol. Light resin, though it's not too problematic.
Soft, malty, well-attenuated texture with ample, engaging carbonation and obviously well-brewed. Clean and without any yeast disruption nor much resin. But it's just all bitterness, pine, grapefruit, lemon and orange. So much monotonous citrus with very strong bitterness. These are not and never have been enjoyable to me and I'm thankful every day for the New England IPA. But it's great that there's an IPA for everyone out there.

16 oz. can Stacey picked up at the brewery. Aroma shows light citrus, mellow pine, and a touch of hay. Flavor is traditional “old school” IPA. Mellow citrus with a moderate pine bitterness. Certainly nothing wrong here at all.

On tap at Gabf. Pours a cloudy orange with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is tropical fruit and dank. Medium body, juicy, melon, grapefruit, lingering resin bitterness, very nice.

Can from brewery: pours a so uncool mostly clear with an off white head. Aroma is pineapple, pine, citrus. Taste is tropical and citrusy, some light pine. Bitterness is there in moderate doses. Falls somewhere between a more traditional IPA and the contemporary juice bombs. However, it attains that balance with finesse and immense drinkability.
