Hoptopia is Hermitage Brewing Company’s flagship IPA. This amber colored beer has a great aroma that is a mixture of piney, citrus, and floral hop notes. This hop forward beer has a piney hop flavor, mixed in with some grapefruit-like character, and balanced by a toasted malt flavor with hints of caramel. Hoptopia is a well balanced IPA that is remarkably approachable and easy drinking.

Golden amber color. Grapefruit, and caramel nose. The nose is nice. The mouth is med body. Moderately bitter finish. Not really balanced, not really well made. Meh.

Aroma of ketchup and smoke bbq sauce. Nice orange color with white head that dissipates quickly. Taste of very sweet malt, and ketchup follows through with the sweet smoke. Not balanced.

Hazy orange/copper coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of pine, pineapple, some honey and a lot of bright hops. Medium to Full-bodied; Bright grapefruit and citrus hop flavours show up first with a lingering sweetness and a little perfumey and floral hoppiness. Aftertaste shows a decent amount of alcohol, some bright hops and some fresh fruit as well. Overall, an okay Imperial IPA - not great, but not horrible either. More of a sweet and tad heavier IPA, but not nearly enough hops to compensate for everything else. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BevMo in San Diego (Rosencrans), California on 08-February-2011 sampled in New Paltz, New York on 20-February-2011.

Bomber from BevMo Salinas. Nose is light pine, slight floral, and a fair amount of caramel malt. Very lightly hazy orange with a small pale yellow head. Flavor is lightly bitter with slight sweetness, and caramel. Finishes moderately bitter, more than the first taste.

22 oz. bottle, split with manuchampions, pours orangey amber with a small white head. Aroma of smoke/peat, an iodine-like scent (very odd) and wood. Flavour follows this nasty pattern. This seems way off - very medicinal like, with the iodine-like quality dominating. Either a bad batch or an abysmal beer. Yuck.

ReRate: 10/14/10 So, I’m a glutten for punishment. I went to CA again and bought another bottle of Hoptopia from BevMo (La Jolla). From the other end of the state that I bought the other bottle last week.
The only difference in my rating is the appearance, the bottle was slightly carbonated, it poured with a nice off-white head and some lacing in the glass. The aroma and taste are the same as the first beer. footbalmed this one also.
Original: 10/10/10 22oz bottle from Bevmo in Fairfield CA
Appearance: Uh oh, no hiss when I popped the cap. That’s not a good sign. Pours slightly hazy amber with no head or lacing
Aroma: Wet dish towel and medicinal
Taste: Cardboard, medicinal and alcohols
I had high hopes from the reviews, but this bottle was seriously infected. I hope to try another one and re-rate it. I had to footbalm 21oz’s of beer, that doesn’t happen often.

22oz bottle pours a clear orange, amber with a thin white head. Nice, mild, hoppy aroma, earthy, pine, musty hops, candy. Flavor is sweet, butterscotch, caramel, oranges, light grapefruit. Full bodied, bitter finish.

Wash. DC tasting. light orange, white head citrus hops, flroal notes with nice tangy orange flavors. got a bunch of caramel malts with some honey sweetness balanced with a lasting bitter citrus finish. Some wildflowers notes, overall palate was light for the style with a more pronounced approach on the malty side.

Bomber at DC local tasting. Clear amber color, large off white head. Aroma of strong pine with a citrus edge. Taste is pleasant and not overwhelmingly bitter. Very nice.

Bottle. Pours with a clear, deep gold, near bronze body and a minimal off-white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, melon and marrow. Dry and some slight fruit esters from the yeast. Taste is pine, slightly tannic grain extraction, bitter, light fruity/floral notes. Maybe a bit of rye. Very nicely attenuated. Bitter aftertaste. A fury of small bubbles.
