Death by Chocolate Cake. What would happen if we took one of the nation’s best loved, super-indulgent desserts for inspiration, and applied it to our most indulgent beer? Even more cacao nibs, even more Cypress wood, even more depth. It’s doubled down and ramped up to imperial strength. The Amburana is still critical. Its spicy, fragrant spirals impart all kinds of different flavours, not dissimilar to the complexity of tonka beans. It's remarkable how we all seem to pick up something different from them.

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, slightly soft, modest superfine carbonation. Soft dark malts, lightly creamy. Mild spice. Fruity chocolate. A mildly bitter spicy note on the back end. Smooth finish. Pleasant and easy drinking but lacks a real wow factor to get it into the higher score echelons.

Tap@Erlings Jazz & Ølbar, Aarhus - Pours black with a small tan head. Sweet and roasted dark malty with opulent notes of chocolate, some caramel and fudge, medium to full body, rich decadent chocolate and cakey malty into the finsh. Lovely.

Bottle at home, 25/01/19. Pitch black with a decent tan head that stays for the show. Nose is tangy fruits, spice, chocolate, brown sugars, wooded notes, toffee, molasses. Taste comprises bitter fruits, ginger, chocolate, spice, light booze, toffee fudge, fruit cake. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light boost. Decent enough impy stout but nothing from the top draw offered here.

Draft. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, alcohol, dark chocolate, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol, and dried fruits, leading to a bitter finish.

Kakao dominuje, dajac lekko suche takie wrazenie. Bdb stout w tle tylko niestety - przegieli. Niemalo ciala. Slodkie. Nie za ciezkie. Dobre+

Bottle bought at the brewery. Rich chocolate aroma - has an edge to it which makes me think of chocolate liquor sweets. Dark and glossy. Beige head does a runner. Medium bitter with a sweet chocolate streak that gains in strength into the finish. Dark chocolate bitterness with an edge. Boozey warmth. Thick bodied. Creamy. Average to flat carbonation. Long, if low key, astringent finish. Yum. A perfect nightcap before an early night.

Bottle that Geraint and Helen kindly picked up for us, cheers you two! Consumed at home Friday 28th December 2018. Whilst cooking Homestyle Lamb Curry and a Mushroom and Pea Korma. We're listening to Iggy Confidential on 6 Music Pours black with and much like it's siblings it has the rapidly disappearing head. The aroma does give off nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. It's quite lucious and thick in the mouth not as boozy as expected with vanilla, chocolate alongside the aforementioned spices. This is a lovely beer. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 4.0
