The style of the latest beer from Moosehead’s Small Batch Brewery is no accident. The limited-edition Single Hop American IPA recognizes the man who first launched Moosehead into the United States in 1978: Derek Oland. Oland, who is today the brewery’s Executive Chairman, spearheaded one of the boldest moves the company ever made – one that helped catapult Moosehead into a globally-recognized brand.
Derek’s Single Hop American IPA was created to celebrate Derek’s incredible legacy, and to recognize every entrepreneur who has the courage to make their dream a reality. The unique El Dorado single hop used in this IPA offers firm but balanced bitterness and elicits bright tropical flavors and aromas of pineapple, mango and pear.

473ml can. Cloudy, yellow-ish, golden colour with average to huge, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, snow white head. Citrusy and piney, hoppy aroma, minimally biscuity, pale malty background, notes of lemon and pineapple. Taste is minimally sugary, sweet-ish, minimally biscuity, pale malty and moderately, piney and citrusy fruity hoppy, notes of lemon, pineapple, some mandarine. Watery texture, slightly dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Crips, refreshing, a tad too sugary sweet - nice.

0.473 l can from the brewery's German web shop. Hazy, golden with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, quite fruity, minimally resiny aroma of pineapple, mango and some tangerine. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, quite fruity and a bit resiny taste of mango, pineapple, some tangerine and a touch of pine, followed by a short, gently bitter finish. Medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Solid IPA, nothing special, not bad either.
