Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Rye Stout with Black Ring Coffee
For the seventh bottled batch of this Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Coffee Stout, we've partnered with our own Supervising Brewer, Bryan Barron, and his Long Beach-based coffee roasting company @black_ring_coffee!
When Bryan isn't overseeing our brewing operations, he's perfecting the next batch of beans on the 14lb coffee roaster at the business he's owned since 2017. He and the Black Ring team are known for their small-batch roasts, award-winning cold brew, and house-made syrups -- and they've been keeping our Production Team caffeinated since Bryan joined our team this summer!
We’re thrilled to showcase the washed El Salvador - Las Lomas coffee beans Bryan selected and roasted specifically for RedEye November (2024). This coffee brings decadent flavors of toasted marshmallows, walnuts, semi-sweet chocolate, and baking spices to Darkstar November's base notes of burnt sugar, spicy rye, and oak.

Keg at Muted Horn, Berlin, 23/07/22. Black with a tan cap. Nose is rich roast, coffee bean, charr, spice, dried fruit rinds, cacao nibs. Taste comprises rich roast, decadent chocolate, coffee grinds, spice, bourbon rip, molasses, brown sugar melt. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with warming alcohol balanced by a good bourbon kiss. Solid work.

Bottle logic 2.0 tasting. Black with almost no head. Roasted coffee aroma and taste with dark chocolate, burnt sugar and a touch of booze. Coffee is rich and well balanced. Good one!

Bottle. Pours inky black with a small brown late forming head and decent lacing. Aroma Is strong roast espresso beans mocha mocha chocolate bourbon vanilla a bit earthy. Flavor is at least medium sweet light plus bitter strong strong coffee influence. Full body creamy mouthville.. So I enjoy this but it is extremely coffee forward and you have to be a coffee lover Before you would find this at all enjoyable.

Vom Fass im Muted Horn Berlin 2022-04 getrunken. Dieses süßliche Kaffee-Stout hat einen mächtigen Körper, der durch eine sehr deutliche Bourbon-Fassreifung dominiert wurde. Wunderbare Aromakombination!

Bottle (2021 edition) pour from Valley Beverage, Sherman Oaks. It's an opaque, inky black with no sparkle, nice viscosity, thin ring of light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong bourbon, oak over background coffee and roasted malts with toffee. Taste is strong bourbon, coffee, roast and vanilla. Mouthfeel is full bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, strong aroma and flavor. Not super complex but decent and well balanced. No sign of alcohol.

On tap at Bottle Logic, pours black with a small light brown head. Nose is loaded with spicy, earthy rye, medium roast, a touch of coffee, and a touch of wood. Flavour is on the more abrasive side, with intense spicy and earthy rye, medium roasted coffee and light bourbon. The rye actually makes this somewhat difficult to drink. It's certainly well-made but the rye adds a harshness to this that makes it difficult on the palate. One of the less impressive pastry stouts from Bottle Logic.
