Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Rye Stout with Black Ring Coffee
For the seventh bottled batch of this Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Coffee Stout, we've partnered with our own Supervising Brewer, Bryan Barron, and his Long Beach-based coffee roasting company @black_ring_coffee!
When Bryan isn't overseeing our brewing operations, he's perfecting the next batch of beans on the 14lb coffee roaster at the business he's owned since 2017. He and the Black Ring team are known for their small-batch roasts, award-winning cold brew, and house-made syrups -- and they've been keeping our Production Team caffeinated since Bryan joined our team this summer!
We’re thrilled to showcase the washed El Salvador - Las Lomas coffee beans Bryan selected and roasted specifically for RedEye November (2024). This coffee brings decadent flavors of toasted marshmallows, walnuts, semi-sweet chocolate, and baking spices to Darkstar November's base notes of burnt sugar, spicy rye, and oak.

23 February 2019. (Tasting formerly known as) RBBWG. Cheers to all, thanks Kraddel for the hospitality! Hazy black, quickly thinning, beige head. Aroma of vanilla, mocha, crème brûlée, chocolate powder, praliné, bourbon, raisin, dried fig, toffee. Taste is medium malty sweet, chocolate & vanilla custard balancing nicely in a coat of brownie with a touch of toffee; medium roasted bitter middle carries mocha, fondant, roasted nuts & a slight umami accent of soy & black olive; a subtle undercurrent of dried, dark fruits carries the whole to a dryish, peppery hoppy finish in which toast, coffee, vanilla & chocolate linger, with a good dash of warming bourbon alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Strong, assertive 'Imperial Coffee Stout', thoroughly enjoyable.

Svart med fingerhøyt moccafarget skum. Lukter blomster, mørk sjokolade, espresso, mørke frukter, dadler, fiken, melasse og noe lakris. Fyldig. Smaker søt lakris, salt, blomster, melasse, eik, vanilje og alkohol. Lang. Alkohol og salt lakris i avslutningen.

Sample from bottle @ tasting formerly know as RBBWG 2019. F: big, tanned, long lasting. C: dark, opaque. A: a lot of chocolate, roasted tones, cocoa, coffee, dark dried fruits, bit of coconut and vanilla. T: rich dark malty, coconut, cocoa, chocolate, bit coffee, vanilla, dried dark fruits, full complex beer, lower carbonation, great one, fully enjoyed as my beer #4400.

MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very roasted, bit malty, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, bit sugary. Aftertaste: bitter, hoppy, alcohol, more alcohol, chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee, mocha, vanilla, lovely stuff.

2018 bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of tan head that lingers, then dissipates. Very coffee forward nose with rich cacao nib and espresso dominating the aromas. As it warms some brown sugar, more coffee and light vanilla notes. Smooth on the palate with more big espresso notes followed by soft maple and brown sugar flavors. Fairly smooth with good balance. Really liking the coffee in this one. Lingering peppery rye notes on the finish with more espresso.

Bottle. 2018 vintage. Aroma is mild barrel, chocolate, bold coffee. The flavor shows a mild barrel lasting through the sip. Coffee is moderate with out any sweetness. Earthy notes. ABV is only slightly noticed. Awesome.

WeWork tasting (20.01.2019). Dark brown pour with some brown foam. Nose is somewhat filled with chillies, dark bitter chocolate, somewhat green feel to it. Interesting green chillies, dusty cocoa character. taste has some coffee, chillies and booze, medium body that is quite rough and filled with chillies. Quite spicy overall feel, feels lighter than it probably should. Good shit.
